I am a co-founder and director of Flow Foundation, an international research and education organisation which develops executive education programs, leadership journeys, seminars and events. This is fed by research conducted in cooperation with academic institutions such as Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where I hold a research position.

  • Wings for UN Environment Summit in Rio de Janeiro, May 2012, for 200 leaders in business, government and civil society, engaging stakeholders to participate in the dialogues at the UN Summit.

The prime task of leaders is to create sustainable high-performance teams and organizations. These are successful in two ways: they bring in tangible business results, while at the same time they serve their people and the environment they operate in. It is my belief that these objectives can be served simultaneously – in fact, research shows that without the second objective the first cannot be achieved on an ongoing basis. Moreover, upcoming ecological and social challenges will make this dual objective a necessity rather than a luxery. Organizations of the future will need to create sustainable wealth and well-being for all its stakeholders, internal and external. Thus, its leadership needs to be driven by a vision that allows people to develop their full potential, while building internal and external relationships on trust and integrity. The result will be ‘flow’ for people and business. By extension, it is my belief that we can create larger sustainable economic systems, in line with laws of nature and the human mind, by balancing the need for efficiency with resilience and social cohesion, thus creating ‘flow’ in society.

In order to bring these objectives about, we deploy science-tested methodology for developing human potential in four dimensions: mental, emotional, social and ecological. The working of the human mind is considered fundamental.
